Crimson Death

Now in Paperback! In her twenty-fifth adventure, vampire hunter and necromancer Anita Blake learns that evil is in the eye of the beholder... Anita has never seen Damian, her vampire servant, in such a state. The rising sun doesn’t usher in the peaceful death that he desperately needs. Instead, he’s being bombarded with violent nightmares and blood sweats. And now, with Damian at his most vulnerable, Anita needs him the most. The vampire who created him, who subjected him to centuries of torture, might be losing control, allowing rogue vampires to run wild and break one of their kind’s few strict taboos. Some say love is a great motivator, but hatred gets the job done, too. And when Anita joins forces with her friend Edward to stop the carnage, Damian will be at their side, even if it means traveling back to the land where all his nightmares spring from...a place that couldn’t be less welcoming to a vampire, an assassin, and a necromancer. 1. I love both of your major series and can’t wait to see what this one brings. I really hope we will get to see into Merry’s world again soon though I miss them.

  2. I’m so excited, I have a whole shelf dedicated to LKH on my bookshelves, and I’ve started a second as I’ve just started the Merry Gentry series.
Anita is still my favorite, and I get every person I can addicted to the Anita Blake series.

  3. Can’t hardly wait to get my hands on this book. Since Anita is going to Europe, I’m hoping for an appearance by Olaf.

    1. Can’t hardly… Isn’t that a double negative or something? Having said that I agree that Olaf is due for an appearance. That WOULD be good.

  4. I cant wait for a trip down Damien’s past, but I would like to know when the wedding will be done if it is done at all

  5. I love these books I have even got my mom to listen to the books on cd. Can’t wait till the next one comes out Edward is the best. I am now in the process of rereading the whole series over. Thank You for making my days a little better.

  6. Crimson Death will my birthday present to myself this year! Very excited, But when is she going to get back to Sampson and his Brothers?.

  7. I love when Edward is in your books. He’s a fascinating character. But honestly truly anticipating to see more into Anita’s life. With every book there’s something new to learn about her. Love all of your books; be it Anita, Merry, or your other books. Please keep up the awesome work :3

  8. Pre-ordered via amazon. It will join all the other hardbound editions of your books except Jason and Mikah. I so enjoy the Edward/Ted character. He adds a dimension to anita’s character that no other character does. I follow your blog via Goodreads.

  9. I absolutely love how the relationship between Edward and Anita has evolved. Nikki and Sin are also incredible additions. You are an incredible writer and each book is highly anticipated. I’m wondering if there will be a baby for Anita and what trick of fate will decide who the father will be. I now have your full collection of books in hard copy, but I’m running out of room for books so I have purchased the series for my nook too. Is Van Cleef going to make a play for Anita?

  10. i love all your your books. i hope you never stop making books in the anita blake and merry gentry series. i can’t wait for more.

    1. i would love it if anita finally got a hyena lover to connect with her own were-hyena, and if you could maybe introduce some were- dragons into her life as a possible love interest. and since anita has meet micah’s family, why don’t you have her family show up in the new book you are currently writing?

      1. Totally agree. Anita’s family has greatly influenced her life but is so far a no show in the books. Would love to meet them.

      2. I’m not sure I’d like Anita to have other lovers. I would like to see it go back to her core group of Micah, Nathaniel and Jean Claude. With so many lovers it feels like she doesn’t have enough time to spend with them. Although the idea of were-dragon is interesting.

        1. Yes, I keep wondering how the pard has grown since Narcissus in Chains, with Micah focussed so much on the furry coilition & Anita travelling more on marshall business. Who’s holding the fort? Merle stopped bodyguarding, but I assume he’s still involved in pard business?

        2. If I had known there were vampires in the black castle, I never would have skived off school there, lol. Another great book, especially for your Irish fans.

    2. I wanna meet Anita’s family too. I love this series (Anita Blake) so much. I hope it still goes a long way, 🙂

      1. I also want to meet Anita’s family. I got 5 books hardcover the rest paperback. I also like Micah , Nathaniel and just Anita. I’m glad Damien gets time with just Anita.

  11. I love all of your books I wonder if you could bring back Belle Morte. Maybe even have Anita finally shift into one of her animals. Also how many animals are in Anita. I remember wolf, leopard, lion, tigers and hyena please tell me if I missed any. Just continue the good work you are a fantastic author.

    1. I would also like Belle to resurface… mainly so Valentina & Bartolome might be sent back to their original owner! Without Belle they have no reason to leave even if they do find a way to make amends to Stephen & Gregory.
      Valentina is creepy AF.

  12. I am so super excited about another of your Anita Blake books…I love your books! Please, please don’t change a thing! I just finished reading the whole AB series again bc I missed it so much and am truly looking forward to Crimson Death!

  13. I can’t wait! Edward is one of my favorite characters! 🙂 I hope this gets released as an audiobook them I can listen when I have to work lol! I’m wondering does anyone know when books 10 through 15 will be re-released as a audiobook? Thank you!

      1. No they don’t they no longer have books 10 – 15. I would like to know when they will be out too.

      2. I just checked on their website and I don’t see any of those audiobooks. I would by them in a hot minute if I could find them!

  14. Will you have a chapter posted for a preview of your next book. I have read all of your books an everytime you have a new book come out, I read them again can’t wait for the next one. I hope they never end. Thanks for all of the endless hour’s you put into every page.

  15. Oohh.. Edward is going to be in this story too? Yay! I can’t wait for this book to be published! 😀

  16. Does this mean that we might be introduced to some of the fey (Seelie or Unseelie court) in Crimson Death?

    Love the Anita Blake series.

    Can’t wait for this book.

  17. can’t wait for the next book! I love Edward, I want to know who will kill Olaf, Edward, Nicky, or Anita??? That’s going to be very interesting reading. Your are a spectacular author. I own all your books Series in book format and audio.

  18. I can not wait to get every one of these books on audio book. So I can relive them again in a completely different way. Bring on the new book. I am thriving for more !!!

  19. Just enough time to start the series all over again before the new book comes out. Can a person be in love with a book character? Yes she can. It’s Edward for me!!!

  20. So excited for this! Can’t believe Crimson Death is out on my birthday! Best present ever!

  21. Can’t wait!!! Can’t wait for the cover! Can’t wait for the words! Cant freakin wait!!! Its like knowing my best friend is coming to visit on Sep, 13th. Now, how do I prepare? I know, read the series all over again!! Can’t wait!

  22. I’ve read all the books 3 times. I’m on affliction on my 3rd go and I love how I always pick up on something I missed. Can’t wait till the new book is out and set in Ireland, too! Yay!

    1. I completely agree! I’m also on Affliction but this is my 4th time through the series. I started a few years ago and I like to re-read the series before each new book comes out to catch back up. I also catch things that I didn’t remember reading before! It’s so awesome. I don’t really watch tv but I would totally watch if this was a series on tv. I also love the Merry Gentry series I just wish there were more of them. : )

  23. I’m half way through Dead Ice, after marathoning through the series this last month. (For the 3rd time in the last decade and a half) I very much look forward to September!

  24. At first this next book was scheduled to be released on Jun 7, 2016, than it was pushed back to Sept 27, 2016, now it appears that it won’t be released until the Oct 11, 2016; and I haven’t come across and postings explaining the continued push backs. Is there a particular reason for the ambiguous publication dates, or is the Oct 11 definitive at this point?

  25. I love all the Anita Blake books. Can not wait for the next one. Anita and Edward will kick ass and save Damian, of that I have no doubts. All the guys are great, Jean Claude, Micah, Nathaniel, Edward. The addition of Nicki is spot on. Though I must admit in my heart of hearts I have quite the THING for Wicked and Truth. What is it about those two ?

  26. Was really looking forward to getting my hands on this tomorrow. Took me a while to get to Dead Ice, so when first saw Crimson Death was coming in June, decided to hold Ice till got Death. Now I have to wait 4 more months? Disappointment. Oh,well.

  27. Im a long time fan of your books, and actually own all but a few even though im working on getting more copies while I’m up here in Illinois. Can’t wait for this next one but sadly Ill have to

  28. I love the scenes when Anita is consumed in her rage and power. I would love to see another one.

  29. Jean claud, Nathaniel, micah,Nicki, wicked & truth. Edward and Anita. yeah and jason. must live, if someone has to die, as long as it not one of them, I will be OK. maybe not happy about it but I will get over it if it’s done right. but these characters are my main core “happy place” characters and they add so much to make Anita a better person. stop her from becoming that monster or sociopath she fears she might be.

  30. I know it’s incredibly cheesy of me, but your books helped me stay strong through some tough times. Thank you for these wonderful books and for continuing the series.

  31. It would be a good addition to the book if Anita finally learns how to use her own trimunitive of power the way it was intended, giving them the strength and power to defeat Damian’s creator.

  32. kinda disapointed pre ordered crimson death cuz it was going to be out buy mid july and would corespond with my vacation then it got pushed back till sept

  33. I am freaking out! I can’t wait to see the cover, read an exert…something!!! Throw me a bone please! I can’t wait any longer!!!

  34. I pre-ordered the e-book back in April and was advised the release date was in June…never received any notice that it was changed…now I see that it’s not due until October. I love your books but that is very frustrating!!

  35. My twin sister and I can not wait for your books to come out we talk no stop to all are friends and got each one of the hooked to you I have bought guilty pleasers at least nine times I lend it out and never get it back its OK cause someone else has fallen for your books thank you for your increasable mind no other can compares to you

  36. I am so excited for this book, and she is going to Eroupe. Maybe some of those questions that have never been answered will finally be answered. I want to know what happened to the council The Traveler, The Beastmaster even Belle morte, herself where did they go while Anita was defeating Mommie Dearest.

  37. I have been reading this series since middle school and love many of the characters, especially Anita Blake. Although I understand the power structure and relationships required a lot of chapters devoted to sex and multiple partners, I sincerely hope we get more Anita in conflict and dialogue with the vampires and other monsters. Would love to see her meet up with weakened council members while in Europe. Anyway I respect your ability to write and I hope to see less focus on sex and relationship stuff, I mean we get it. Polygamy ok. Sex and pain ok. I wanna see more pages devoted to the cases or non sexual power struggles, I mean she did learn to shift her power to friendship and love, not just lust.

  38. Omg can’t wait for crimson death to come out just finished dead ice and wow. So happy I don’t have to wait longer for the next one. Love this series so much. And love your talent so much more laurell wow what a great written and really keeping me sucks in.

    1. Like everyone else i simply “cant wait” im dying to see Anita & Jean Claude get married. Kind of annoyed their going to have so many other people involved with this commitment ceremony, particularly ‘interviewing’ strangers to be included..kind of cheapens the whole thing. Anyway i also hope Anita will be able to turn into one of her many animals at some point, maybe a match up with olaf who i suspect will turn up as his animal? So really happy the story still continues, also hoping there will be another Merry Gentry book, still mourning Sholto. Thanks again for all your wonderful stories with all the characters we love.

  39. Can’t wait like everyone else just reading dead ice after going through the whole series again for the umpteenth time lol hope they never stop and somone amazing makes them into tv or film 🙂

  40. I really wish you would make movies out of each book. I know i would buy them all and I’m not the only one. I just love your books.

  41. I love all your books and can’t wait till the next one to come out, also would love to see Peter, Edward son when he goes on his first assassination trip with Anita, and what happened with Van Cheef.

  42. I’m so glad the next one comes out soon, I just finished “Dead Ice” and I’m starving for more! Your books touch on alot of topics that are very real to me. I identify very much with Nathaniel, and see my fiancée in Anita, Jean Claude, and sometimes Edward. I love every one of your books, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

  43. I love all of your books. Even the titles are amazing. I’ve been looking forward to this book ever since I finished Dead Ice the day it came out. I’m so very happy to be getting more of Damien’s story. He’s always been one of my favorite characters. Also… Edward is going to be in this one!!!! Yay!
p.s. when is Olaf going to show back up? And when is Van Cleef finally going to make himself known???

  44. Hey, tried to buy crimson death today but was told that it was unavailable in new zealand due to copy right reasons.(from amazon.com.au and couldn’t find it at all on kobo) Thought for a moment that I was just too early as it’s still morning here in nz and it might not have released yet. Butif that is the case they usually let you pre-order the book. So I was just wondering, is it some kind of bug, or are you really not releasing this book in nz at all.
Will check again later to see if it has become available, but just thought I’d ask as well so thatif it is a bug, it might be able to be fixed.
Love you’re books, looking forward to this one.

  45. I am only about 100 pages in and am so loving Crimson already!! I can not wait for the big Wedding Too! Love that Anita:)

  46. I don’t know about others but I would love a gallery on the site of artist renditions of all your Anita Blake characters I would love a more clear mental image of them all

  47. I hope someone can answer this question the blurb of an excerpt for this book mentions Daniel Richard’s brother but this excerpt is not in the book at all

  48. I just finished reading it and felt like crying at the ending, no spoilers but really I am sad yet happy, love your books

  49. I’m a bit of a late fan but I’m a big fan. Thanks Laurell for bringing this world to us all! I have read a few assorted Anita Blake novels but recently have gotten the entire list to begin buying those I haven’t read. I have stage 4 cancer and hope I can read them all while I can. Paperbacks are the easiest for me to read because the hardbacks are too unwieldly. Only problem is, I can’t find Crimson Death in paperback. Is it out in paperback yet? Thanks again for this wonderful series of books, Laurell!!

  50. Book Hangover: “Inability to start a new book because you’re still living in the last book’s world.”

A good novel makes you feel apart of the story, you may not consciously realize just how much you relate to the characters, you feel a loss as though a relationship is over.

“You can’t, if you can’t feel it, if it never
Rises from the soul, and sways
The heart of every single hearer,
With deepest power, in simple ways.
You’ll sit forever, gluing things together,
Cooking up a stew from other’s scraps,
    Blowing on a miserable fire,
Made from your heap of dying ash.
Let apes and children praise your art,
If their admiration’s to your taste,
But you’ll never speak from heart to heart,
Unless it rises up from your heart’s space.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust: First Part

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” — Dr. Seuss

  51. Love it, but I want to add a bit of history.

It is surprising that none in Ireland makes comments about Dev’s name, since in Ireland “Dev” was how Eamon de Valera was known. The Irish cannot be so forgetful of recent history…

  52. Absolutely Loved it!!!! I need to reread some of the series prior to this one. I just read the whole series but I believe that I have missed some pertinent information.

  53. love the series, great reading. Anita is gathering tooooo many love interest. Jean-Claude needs have more of a role in the books. I know it is mainly about Anita, but Jean-Claude early in the series Jean-Claude was a great supporting character. Richard’s character is too weak to be accepted, he is portrayed as a strong leader but comes off as weak. Please bring Jean-Claude back into the series, other than just brief appearances.

  54. Lockdown in Ireland has me returning to old favourites and rereading all Anita Blake series. I was a bit wary on this one when I knew it was set in my home town of Dublin, but I should have known better than to doubt Laurell’s great research and the woman behind my favourite character. She got an element of the magic of the land and people. Never disappointed in reading her books, we have been through ups and downs and lots of rollercoaster rides over the years and is like my own personal therapy sessions! I love the vulnerable and powerful woman Anita continues to become and love how each book never ceases to amaze not only the way the storytelling evolves in amazing and surprising ways, but great characters and get so drawn into the world. I suppose no surprise that after 20 years of reading them they all feel like family as I know it is with so many other readers. I love finding myself having the spectrum of emotions while reading the books from laughing out loud, to anger, to excitement, to frustration and love for Anita and her beaus.
First time to leave comment. I think what this pandemic has done is brought out sense of community for people and wonder if anyone can recommend good fan site or online chat to able to share with like minded Anita fans and people who get the experience that these books have and continue to give over so many years.
I am normally a patient kinda girl after all these years of waiting for the next book, but when is the wedding 🙂

  55. Just finished Crimson Death. There were two key points in the story that were mentioned several times (don’t want to say because it might spoil) but having just read Dead Ice they were not part of the story so when these two things are mentioned in Crimson I am like “What?” “When did that happen?” Did I miss a story in between?
