Serpentine Tour – Blog One

Aug 05, 2018

Serpentine, my latest novel hits the shelves on August 7th! I can’t wait for you to finally get to read it. There were so many times that I’d write something fun, or surprising and I’d want to Tweet it, or blog about it, but I knew that was a nope. Why? Because it was usually something that would give away the mystery, or character development, or the big reveal. When a certain character finally came on stage it was everything I could do not to Tweet it, or do a quick video for Instagram, but I knew that if I could have behaved myself on Twitter, I’d totally have spilled the beans on a video. So I stayed offline and behaved myself, because I wanted you to be able to read it yourself for the first time, not have me do spoilers months, or even a year ahead of time. But now, the tour for Serpentine is about to begin, and I still won’t be able to talk about spoilers, because not everyone will have read the book yet. Arrgghhh!

So now I have to decide, do I let you and I talk about Serpentine as if we’ve all read the book, or do I police us so we don’t spoil things for those who haven’t finished the book yet? I wish we could all sit down with a cup of coffee, or tea, and just talk about the book, but I can’t talk to each one of you personally, so how do we do it? I’m also doing interviews in print and recorded, some of which have a few spoilers in them. Not like who/what done it, but character interactions and some reveals about plot, so as those come out then we should be able to talk more freely at the signings and tour events. But the first event in Huntington Beach Barnes & Noble (Tomorrow night at 7-10 pm more info in the link) that has to be spoiler free; right? Right? Come on, right? Yes, right, because most people will not have read Serpentine all the way through yet. We have to behave ourselves and let everyone catch up, but I think as the tour continues we might all finally be on the same page. Or not, we’ll see. I’m thinking that maybe you can give your opinion in the comments below. Let me know who’s having time to finish the book so I can gauge whether it would be fair to talk about spoilers at the tour events.

  1. I’ll be at the Huntington Beach event tomorrow night and am very excited about meeting you and finally getting my hands on Serpentine, lol. I can only imagine the difficulty of wanting to talk to us, your fans and am very grateful for the care you take when in regards to “spoilers”, but then I also understand that there’s readers that were lucky to get the book early and they’ll want to discuss the book with you at the event and that’s ok with me too. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night!! Safe travels!!!

  2. The book comes out on Tuesday and the event I am attending is on Wednesday. I checked with the bookstore and they confirmed that attendees will receive the book at the event. I would appreciate a spoiler free event. Thank you!

  3. Wait Wait Wait! Let me read it before you talk about it. I promise to put whatever book I’m reading on hold to finish yours first. I’ve been reading your books since the early 2000s and have often reread everything before reading the latest iteration of Anita et al., or Merry. I love your work. Thank you.

  4. I’m pretty sure I won’t have time to read it by Friday (which is your Dallas stop) cuz you know…adulting.

  5. Hello Laurell- I personally am still re-reading all of the books and am only on Narcissus in Chains so I’m way behind. I gotta get through all of them before I read your newest book 🙂
It’s like a fun exciting present to look forward to once I finish all of the others to be able to open and read the new installment. I can’t wait- but I’m going to be a good girl.

  6. Thank you Laurell K Hamilton

    HAPPY RELEASE DAY FOR SERPENTINE!

Richards and asshole but he is really a hottie. Asher has scars and his brooding is snotty…. guns and knife sheaths that have leather strappings… THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!.

Oh lycanthropes bite and vamp fang sting… it kinda makes me glad. … these are my just simply my favorite things.. and NOW YOU realize IMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD lol

  7. Sadly, I will not be able to make any tour stop so really have no say there. I will be getting the book tomorrow between 1 and 1:30 pm – if Amazon is on the ball like they say they are and my mail-carrier is on time. I will have it read in a couple of days depending on how much I need to sleep. 😀 But, I am usually also pretty good about giving spoilers and such ’cause I don’t want to mess with someone else’s enjoyment. Ah yes! I am impatiently waiting to read this and I don’t like spoilers either. But really? Piles of snakes? 😀

  8. I’d love to be there on these events, but I’m from another country and there’s no way to go. ?
But, I’m counting the hours so I can buy my ebook online and start reading this story! I feel like I’m traveling to meet Anita and her group and can’t wait to arrive at my destination!!!
Actually that’s the feeling I have everytime a new book comes out… ?

  9. I pre ordered it on audible, and if it’s like the last few books you released i will have it finished in a day (actually had a hard copy of the last Mery book and finished it in less than a day…i could NOT put it down!!!)

But it could be a moot point as i live in “district 12” (lol i know wrong books but it’s funny) AKA West Virginia and I don’t think you are coming anywhere near me *sighs* (which SUCKS cause i would LOVE to meet you and discuss your books and your influences…)
But i CANNOT WAIT to get Serpentine!!

  10. Oh the joys of audible. It keeps me up to date with books, yet also keeping my eyes on three rambunctious boys.
My moms birthday is 8-7 so perfect gift, we both read your work.
    Hope your tour goes well.
    Love from Utah

  11. Really enjoyed this latest installment, well worth a sleepless night because I wanted to keep reading until I finally found out more about the family. It also always interest me on Anita’s relationship dynamics, I love watching them gain more color and clarity. Serpentine kept me hooked to learn how Anita herself is evolving and discovering new abilities. It’s also captivating to see how her known abilities are expanding in her and those around her. I’ll not include any spoilers for the sake of those not having read the book yet, but this one does leave me excited for her next adventure and how Anita’s world is expanding.

  12. Just finished reading. Did my OMG!!! happy dance. Now gonna read it again! LOL…..you never know what you read but didn’t quite pick up on ’til I read a second time.

  13. Is there any news on when this will be released in paperback? I have all of the books in this series except two as paperback, and the two hardcovers stick out like sore thumbs lol

  14. I have a question for you regarding the location setting as I was in the area while listening to the book – is Kirk and Little Coppet real? If so, what are they close to as I am trying to map it. ?

  15. Are you gonna be doing another book after This one. Can’t wait my daughter and I love it.
